Abdel Halim Mohamed Abdel Halim: first Sudanese physician Abd al-Halim Muhammad Abd al-Halim (1910-2009) graduated from Kitchener Medical School in 1933. He was the first Sudanese to acquired the membership of the Royal College of Physicians in London in 1948 and thus known as (Father of medicine in Sudan). He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in London in 1962, and he was also the first Sudanese to obtain this degree. He was awarded an honourary doctorate in science from the University of Khartoum in 1965. He worked as a doctor in Khartoum Hospital from his graduation until 1947 and director and head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Omdurman Hospital (1950-1953). تخرج عبد السلام محمد أحمد جريس (1944-) في كلية الطب جامعة الخرطوم في 1968. نال عضوية الكلية الملكية لاختصاصيي أمراض النساء والتوليد في لندن في عام 1974، وفي عام 1979 منح زمالة الكلية البريطانية لاختصاصيي أمراض النساء والتوليد، ونال درجة الدكتوراه السريرية في أمراض النساء والتوليد من جامعة الخرطوم في عام 1980. عمل في مستشفيات الخرطوم بحري التعليمي والخرطوم التعليمي ومستشفيات مدلسكس ورويال فري في بريطانيا. نشر أكثر من 83 ورقة علمية في دوريات محلية وإقليمية وعالمية وأكثر من 25 كتاباً، وترقى أستاذاً بالإنتاج العلمي في 1993. ظهرت بوادر نبوغ دكتور جريس في كل المراحل الدراسية فكان أول الفصل وأول الدفعة والأول في المرحلة الأولية والمرحلة الوسطى والأول في المرحلة الثانوية، وأول الدفعة في تخرج كلية الطب، حاصداً أغلى جوائزها: جائزة كتشنر كأحسن طالب في الدفعة، وجائزة ولترز في الجراحة وامتياز في أمراض النساء والتوليد. في مقال في كتاب (عبقرية عبد السلام جريس) الذي حرره الهادي مسكين ونشره في 2014، رصد فيه بروفيسور عمر أحمد ميرغني سيرة جريس وعلاقته به قائلاً: "تعلمت على يد جريس أبجديا...

Khalda Zahir التحقت خالدة زاهر سرور الساداتي (1926-2015) بمدرسة كتشنر الطبية في العام 1946 وتخرجت فيها في العام 1952 كأول طبية سودانية أباً وأماً تنال شرف تلك الريادة. تخرجت معها في ذلك العام طبية سودانية أخرى من أب أرمني وأم أثيوبية هي زروي فهان سركسيان، وثمانية أطباء هم: إمام محمد المهدي، فؤاد عبده تادرس، صلاح الدين عبد الرحمن، ميرغني يوسف علي، إبراهيم صالح المغربي، الشيخ عبد الرحمن، فائز أمين السني، وأبو بكر حسن أمين. عملت خالدة زاهر في عنبر الأطفال في مستشفى أم درمان ولشهور قليلة في مستشفى رومبيك والخرطوم بحري، وتجولت كثيراً في أنحاء البلاد ضمن نشاطات الصحة المدرسية في وزارة الصحة بالتضامن مع برنامج الغذاء العالمي. نالت خالدة زاهر دبلوم الصحة العامة من إنجلترا ودبلوم طب الأطفال من تشيكوسلوفاكيا، وعملت مساعد الوكيل للصحة المدرسية بمجمع صحة الأطفال بامدرمان ثم مديرة لصحة الأمومة والطفولة. تقاعدت من الخدمة الحكومية في 1986 لكن نشاطها الاجتماعي والسياسي كان مستمراً وإن تأثر كماً لظروفها الصحية. زيادة على ريادتها لميدان الطب كانت خالدة زاهر أيضاً رائدة من رائدات الحركة الن...

Mansour Ali Haseeb تخرج منصور علي حسيب (1910-1973) في مدرسة كتشنر الطبية في 1934،و كان أول من تخصص في علم الأحياء الدقيقة في بريطانيا في 1948 وأول مدير لمعامل ستاك بالخرطوم (1952-1962). تدربت على يديه أجيال عديدة من الأطباء والفنيين ومساعدي المعمل، وساعد العديد من الأطباء في إجراء بحوث تطبيقية أصيلة. لشح أو انعدام مدرسي العلوم الطبية الأساسية، قام بروفيسور منصور في الفترة من 1938 إلى 1962بتدريس علم الأحياء الدقيقة وعلم وظائف الأعضاء وعلم الأمراض وعلم الطب الجنائي وطب المجتمع. كان بروفيسور منصور أول سوداني ينال كرسي الأستاذية في علم الأحياء الدقيقة والطفيليات وأول عميد سوداني لكلية الطب جامعة الخرطوم في 1963. وتقديراً لأبحاثه المنشورة، أصبح بروفيسور منصور عضواً في كليتي علم الأمراض الملكية وكلية الأطباء الملكية بإنجلترا في 1965، ونال جائزة وميدالية شوشة في 1973. أما كتابه ( A Monograph on Biomedical Research in Sudan ) فيستحق أن يقرأ ويترجم للعربية وأن تعاد طباعته ليكون رفيقاً لكل الباحثين، وأن يدرس في كليات الطب فهو مرجع هام في تاريخ التعليم الطبي والبحث العلمي وسجل وافي ل...

تخرج دكتور سليمان مضوي بابكر (1917- 1997)  في مدرسة كتشنر الطبية  في عام 1940. عمل طبيباً بوزارة الصحة كطبيب عام في الخرطوم ومروي وكسلا وبورتسودان والكرمك والدمازين وجنوب السودان والأبيض. بدأ التخصص في أمراض النساء والتوليد في يناير عام 1955 في وظيفة نائب أخصائي بمستشفيات العاصمة المثلثة  تحت اشراف بروفسير دالي البريطاني.أمضى فترة تدريبية لمدة ستة أشهر بمستشفى وست مدلسكس بانجلترا. منح دبلوم النخصص في أمراض النساء والتوليد في مارس عام 1957 هو وشقيقه د. عثمان مضوي  وكانا يشكلان الدفعة الثانية في هذا التخصص  بعد دكتور عبد السلام المغربي أول أخصائي أمراض النساء والتوليد بالسودان . عمل كأخصائي أمراض نساء وتوليد في الخرطوم  (1957-1971)، مدني (1961-1965) والخرطوم (1965-1968) وأم درمان (1968-1972). بالأضافة لعمله الأكلينيكي كان لسليمان مضوي دوراً كبيراً في تعليم طلبة كلية الطب وتدريب وتعليم الأخصائيين الجدد، وكان أحد الرواد في تأسيس مستشفى الدا يات (الولادة أم درمان). بعد أن تقاعد دكتور عبد السلام المغربي في عام  1968، عهد اليه بمنصب كبير أخصا...

Dr El Baghir Ibrahim Abdel Magid was born on 1914 in Berber. He graduated rom KSM in 1936. In 1950, Dr El Baghir was the first Sudanese to obtain the Diploma of Ophthalmology (DO) from London University and the third Sudanese doctor to join this specialty in SMS. Dr El Baghir became later the Senior Ophthalmologist in Ministry of Health and Director of the Eye Hospital from 1962-1965). With the help of the Lions Club, he established the first Institute for Teaching of the Blind ( معهد النور ) in Sudan. The buildings of this institute are situated east of the Naitonal Cinema in Khartoum North. Dr Baghir was the first director for this institute and chairperson of the national committee for care of the blind in Sudan. Dr Baghir died in 1978.

Ibrahim Mohamed El Moghrabi Mr. IM El-Moghrabi (1913-1993), DKSM, D Chir., D Orth., FRCS, FICS, PhD (Hon) had his secondary education at Gordon’s Memorial College, Khartoum, and joined Kitchener School of Medicine and qualified at the age of 21 in 1935. He was top of his class throughout his school career and won the Anatomy and Physiology prizes in 1932. He passed his final examinations with distinction and won the Waterfield prize in Surgery and the school prize in Medicine. He joined the Sudan Medical Service (SMS) and after finishing his house jobs at Khartoum Civil Hospital, he was posted to several districts of Sudan. As a Medical Inspector in Wadi Halfa, he conducted the Gambia Mosquito Campaign and fought a Typhus epidemic. In 1939, Dr. Moghrabi was chosen as the first Sudanese Surgical Registrar and was trained by the late Mr. T.S. Mayne. Early years Dr Abdel Rahim Mohamed Ahmed was born in El Ghaba El Shimaliya, Ugri El Dabba on 3 October 1932(3). He spent the first four years of his life in Al Ghaba Khalwa under Hagg Baloul. His entry into formal government education was a mere coincidence as there were only two primary government schools in that area-one in Wadi Halfa and the other in Berber, and these were only known to the elite. He spent his elementary schooling in Dibaira, north of Halfa, before joining Halfa Intermediate School. Later, he joined Wadi Saidna Secondary school followed by Kitchener School of Medicine (KSM). Schooling was supported by a college scholarship of 10 Sudanese Pounds a year to be given in three-month instalments. In current money, this seems to be too little an amount; but it carried out a lot of pride as it was a compliment to all science students and was a good relief to a poor student. This a tribute to two pharmacists whose contribution to medical science in Sudan has been remarkable. They deserve to be recognized and their work appreciated. The two pharmacists are the naturalized British American industrialist, chemist, bacteriologist, medical philanthropist and pharmaceutical tycoon, Henry Solomon Wellcome (1853-1936), and the Irish pharmacist Professor Patrick FD D’Arcy.
