Abdel Halim Mohamed Abdel Halim: first Sudanese physician

Abd al-Halim Muhammad Abd al-Halim (1910-2009) graduated from Kitchener Medical School in 1933. He was the first Sudanese to acquired the membership of the Royal College of Physicians in London in 1948 and thus known as (Father of medicine in Sudan). He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in London in 1962, and he was also the first Sudanese to obtain this degree. He was awarded an honourary doctorate in science from the University of Khartoum in 1965. He worked as a doctor in Khartoum Hospital from his graduation until 1947 and director and head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Omdurman Hospital (1950-1953).
He was appointed chief physician at the Ministry of Health in 1953, and director of Khartoum Civil Hospital (1953-1956), during which he supervised the construction of the new Khartoum Hospital. He inaugurated several new specialties, including pediatrics, cardiology, kidney and orthopedics, the establishment of a blood bank, the Shaab Hospital for Chest Diseases and the Dermatology Hospital. Abdel Halim Mohamed was a member of the Senate of the University of Khartoum since the University College of Khartoum was affiliated with the University of London, and he was the first president of the University Council in the year 1956. He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Khartoum College of Medical Sciences since its establishment in 2000 until his death.
He participated in the editing of Al-Fajr magazine, and took over the presidency of the Al-Mutamar newspaper for the alumni conference and was one of three who participated in the drafting of the famous alumni memo in 1942. He was the first president of the Sudanese Medical Association since its establishment in 1949 to 1965. After the end of the revolution of 1924 He was established with Ahmed Youssef Hashem and Mohamed Ahmed Mahgoub (Al Hashemab Cultural Association).
Abdel Halim Mohamed was the member and alternate president of the Sudanese Supreme Council of State in the October government. He chaired the Sudanese Football Association and was one of the founders of the Confederation of African Football.
Abdel Halim Mohamed was an example of a doctor committed to his professional ethics and to the intellectual who made public work, especially in the sports field, a respectable area. He discovered the Prince of Oud, Hassan Attia, and enrolled him in the Laboratory Technician School.

تخرج عبد الحليم محمد عبد الحليم (1910-2009) في مدرسة كتشنر الطبية عام 1933، ونال عضوية كلية الأطباء الملكية في لندن عام 1948 وكان أول سوداني ينالها بالتالي عرف بـ (أبو الطب في السودان). منح زمالة كلية الأطباء الملكية في لندن في العام 1962 وكان بذلك أيضاً أول سوداني ينال هذه الدرجة. ومنح الدكتوراه الفخرية في العلوم من جامعة الخرطوم في عام 1965. عمل طبيباً في مستشفى الخرطوم منذ تخرجه حتى عام 1947 ومديراً ورئساً لقسم الأمراض الباطنية بمستشفى أمدرمان (1950-1953). عين كبيراً للأطباء في وزارة الصحة في 1953، ومديراً لمستشفى الخرطوم (1953-1956) وأشرف أثناء ذلك على بناء مستشفى الخرطوم الجديد وعلى تدشين عدة تخصصات جديدة منها طب الأطفال وأمراض القلب والكلى وجراحة العظام وإنشاء بنك الدم ومستشفى الشعب للأمراض الصدرية ومستشفى الأمراض الجلدية. كان عبد الحليم محمد عضواً في مجلس جامعة الخرطوم منذ أن كانت كلية الخرطوم الجامعية تابعة لجامعة لندن، وكان أول رئيس لمجلس الجامعة في العام 1956. كان عضواً بالمجلس العلمي لكلية الخرطوم للعلوم الطبية منذ إنشائها في 2000 حتى وفاته.
شارك في تحرير مجلة الفجر منذ صدورها وتولى رئاسة صحيفة المؤتمر لسان حال مؤتمر الخريجين وكان أحد ثلاثة شاركوا في صياغة مذكرة الخرجين المشهورة في عام 1942. كان أول رئيس للجمعية الطبية السودانية (نقابة الأطباء لاحقاً) منذ إنشائها في 1949 إلى 1965. بعد نهاية ثورة 1924، أسس مع أحمد يوسف هاشم ومحمد أحمد محجوب (جمعية الهاشماب) الثقافية.
شغل عبد الحليم محمد منصب العضو والرئيس المناوب لمجلس السيادة السوداني في حكومة أكتوبر. وترأس الاتحاد السوداني لكرة القدم وكان من المؤسسين للاتحاد الإفريقي لكرة القدم.

كان عبد الحليم محمد مثالاً للطبيب الملتزم بأخلاقيات مهنته وللمثقف الذي جعل من العمل العام خاصة في المجال الرياضي مجالاً جديراً بالاحترام. اكتشف أمير العود حسن عطية وألحقه بمدرسة فنيي المختبرات.
